Sometimes when I find a book that is too damaged for reading but is in better condition than others, I like to make larger crafts with them. This upcycled old book flower decoration is a perfect way to use an old book and make a beautiful decor item. Cheap home decor is my favorite kind of craft, and this one is adorable!

Upcycled Old Book Flower Decoration
This idea of using old book pages is so easy to make. In fact, it's one of my favorite recent creations. This is one that just takes a few steps and some nice pages to make. You can add various additions and embellishments to help it match your decor, but the core process is super easy no matter how you end up decorating this for your home.
Have extra paper? Make this romantic old book page bouquet. It is so easy to make and absolutely gorgeous on your table. If you have a whole book left to use, you can easily turn it into this folded book heart. So pretty and fun to give as a gift!
Can I Paint The Edges of the Paper?
While the book I used for this particular flower had a light red tint on the edges, I love the idea of adding a bit of color with paint. You can use a small foam brush and just add a bit of paint around the edges in any color you like.
Another great idea would be to add paint, then quickly sprinkle glitter over the edges. I'm personally a huge fan of the rainbow glitter from Today Glitter. It's such a great place to find smaller amounts of just the colors you want. Such a find!
Here is another lovely flower decoration out of an old book that you can add to your project list!
How Do You Hang This Flower?
This is a great decoration to just sit on a table or mantle, but I love the idea of hanging it from the ceiling. I wrapped a simple piece of twine around mine, and you could easily do that with a bit extra on the end. Just loop it around and hang from a nail or tack on your ceiling.
You could also really dress up the flower with a nice colorful ribbon around the middle and then add a bit of fishing line to the top for hanging. If you do that, you might want to also add a big bow on top.
What Embellishments Can I Add?
I added a nice big button on the center to cover the gap between the pages. You can definitely add any number of things to cover that hole between the folds of the pages.
Some great ideas would be artificial flowers, a small brooch, or an old piece of costume jewelry. I also love the idea of finding a small bird or similar to glue alongside flowers for springtime. You can easily add anything that you prefer to make this unique. Even some little paper or plastic butterflies could be added for a bit of whimsy!
Supplies Needed
How to Make an Old Book Flower Decoration
Start by removing the pages from the book binding.
Trim off any excess ripped pages on the outside edges and clean up any loose bits.
Go through the book, marking every 10-15 pages, or to create 7 equal sections.
Now, use a ruler to measure the length of the book and mark it halfway down with a pen.
Use a craft knife to cut through the book, cutting all the way through the pages, leaving the binding intact.
Now, take one half of the book, go through finding where you had marked the pages, and fold them over to create a roll that is tucked into the pages but open in the middle.
Once you have 7 sections rolled into a flower-like shape, use a rubber band to wrap around it to hold in place and set aside.
Repeat this process for the other half of the book.
Now, combine the two and wrap the rubber band around them so the book binding bottom is against each other and the rolled areas are on the outside.
Add a button to the center as an embellishment.
Now you can display this on a table or hang from the ceiling.
After making this, you may also want to try your hand at these great old book page flowers. Another idea is making this old book page star wall art. Such a cute way to add a pretty star to your home decor! My favorites, though, are these cute little hanging paper birds from old books. So easy to make and absolutely precious!
