Springtime hits and with it arrives all of the cute little chickens and birds chirping on my window. This absolutely adorable little paper bird kid's craft is a great way to keep kids busy on those first days of warmer weather. A great project that can be used as a decoration for spring, Easter, birthday parties, and more!
Paper Bird Kid's Craft
I am always looking for something simple but fun to keep the kids occupied and productive. They love crafting just as much as I do, but sometimes what I make is a little too much for them.
That's why I just love having crafts like this little paper bird for them to create. I know that I can use these to hang up for Easter, or just to have for fun. They love working with their hands and creating something pretty. I call that a win!
If you want another spring-inspired craft that features birds, you have to make this absolutely precious felt bird paper clip bookmark!
It is super simple to make, and I think it is a great gift to share with others! The kids might prefer to make this craft stick birdhouse for the real birds outside. No matter what you choose, you can't go wrong with a cute little chicken or bird craft!
What is the Best Paper to Make My Bird?
I like a good craft paper that is a heavier weight so it isn't too flimsy for this project. Scrapbook or patterned paper is also a good option as it provides you with a lot of different styles and colors.
For the younger kids, you could even use classic construction paper to create these paper birds.
I would not recommend using card stock or super thick paper as it will be too hard to fold and won't fan out properly. Otherwise, have fun and use whatever you have on hand!
Much like a paper airplane, this is a super versatile craft that works with nearly any paper you choose.
If you have a lot of leftover paper, you could make this paper fern hanging craft that I made from old books but using traditional craft paper. It's a beautiful choice for the springtime decor needs!
How Can I Display This Paper Craft?
Once you and your kids start making these little paper birds, you'll find yourself with a ton of them and not sure what to do with them.
They are so fun though, that you'll quickly find you have plenty of ways to use them! Below are just a few of my favorite ways to put this cute craft to use!
- Add a wing and eye to both sides, then attach ribbon, twine, or fishing line to the top and hang from the ceiling so they look like they are flying.
- Tack onto a piece of cardboard you have covered with solid colored paper, then slip inside of a shadow box frame for a wall art piece.
- Make small versions and attach to gifts as gift tags using the wing as a place to write the receiver's name.
- Make in various colors and sizes and lay flat on your table at your Easter brunch or buffet as table decor.
This bird is just one of many kids and toddler Easter craft ideas we have shared. From making a cute sock Easter bunny to these wood slice Easter ornaments, we have no lack of cute ideas for spring and Easter decor!

For this project, you will begin by folding your solid yellow (or chosen color) of paper. Fold over around 1" and then fold back and forth until all of the paper is folded in a fan.
Now, you will fold this in half again horizontally.
Put glue on the inside of the top paper, and then attach the other side and hold until glue is secure.
Next, you will gently pull apart the paper into a fan shape and lay aside.
Draw a simple wing shape on the patterned paper and cut it out and set aside.
