Framed Hearts Valentine's Day Decoration
Sometimes, even though I feel like I prepare for everything, I need a last-minute decoration. Usually, this happens when I find out guests are coming, or my kids volunteered me to do something at their school. In this instance, a simple picture frame, some sticky foam paper, and a few minute's time turned nothing into something adorable to add to Valentine's Day table!
I love these last-minute ideas that are super inexpensive. I grabbed the foam paper I had on hand and picked up a picture frame at my local Dollar Tree store. This is the result. It cost me $1, and I could make a dozen to go on tables at the school parties in minutes. That's my kind of craft!
My paper heart garland is another super-fast decoration you can create for Valentine's Day. All you need are scissors, string, and a bit of colorful paper.
So cute on buffet tables at parties! If you have been asked to manage part of a class party, these Valentine's Day slice and bake cookies or chocolate Valentine's cookies are easy and yummy. A great choice for class parties!
What Do I Make Hearts Out Of?
For this, I used some sticky-backed crafting foam paper I had on hand already. You can also use a combination of colored paper, glue, and glitter. I also thought of using some stickers I had from last Valentine's Day that had various sizes of hearts.
You can make your hearts for this easy Valentine's Day decoration using any item you have on hand. A bit of glue will hold the hearts in place, and you can customize them for your theme.
Here are 20 more Valentine's Day projects for kids to keep them busy this year. I love this list for classroom events or kids' parties. It is so much more fun to have the kids involved in making the decorations.
They feel good about what they created, and you have help making it happen in less time!
If you are super crafty, you could even grab your Cricut machine and make the hearts out of vinyl in a variety of colors. If this is what you do, there are some great Valentine's Day SVG files you could grab to use for a fun message.
Can I Use Heart Stickers Instead?
As mentioned above, you can definitely use heart stickers instead of cutting hearts out of foam paper. I found this great set of glitter heart stickers on Amazon. Super cheap with tons of options in different colors.
Just what you need to make it even easier. This is especially handy if you are making these with kids.
This Valentine popsicle stick craft is another easy option for kids. You can decorate it with some of those stickers as well as maybe adding some to these printable Lego Valentine's Day cards.
Supplies Needed
- Picture frame
- Foam paper in pink, red, and silver
- Solid paper for the background
- Twine
- Hot glue gun and glue
Optional: Bow and bead embellishments
How to Make Framed Hearts for Valentine's Day
For this project, you will begin by removing the backing of the picture frame then measuring it against the background paper. Trim to fit the size of the frame as shown.
Now, you will use hot glue around the edges of the front part of that backing, and glue the background paper in place. I used a light blue paper for this.
Once this is in place, you can trim any excess paper from the edges, and smooth it down.
While the glue dries, you can then cut out a heart in the foam paper. I used my first heart as a template for the other colors.
Cut at least 3 hearts out of foam paper, or as many as you prefer. Then, you will peel the sticky back off of them and place it on the front of the now dried frame backing. Arrange as desired.
Using the twine, measure a length for each heart on the page, and cut so that the yarn goes to the bottom of the page. This makes them look like a bouquet of heart balloons.
Glue the yarn in place gathering the twine together at the bottom to look like a bundle of balloons.
You can add a small piece of ribbon and a bead to act as a bow at the bottom of the balloon hearts.
Add the backing back inside the frame, and display on a table or mantle.
