This rustic cardboard Christmas star decoration is a perfect addition to your holiday decor. I liked that I could add this to my mantle, put it inside a frame to hang on the wall, or even attach it to a wreath.
A bit of cardboard, some thread, and glue, and you have a perfect addition to any of your holiday decorations.
If you want something for your tree, make this orange star garland instead. It's so fun and easy to make, plus it smells great.

Cardboard Christmas Star Decorations
Stars are the "star of the show" on Christmas trees sometimes. I've seen large gold or yellow stars, white stars, and blue stars, and now, this fun cardboard Christmas star decoration is a new addition to my holiday decor.
This is definitely a super easy craft to make, or let the kids help you make this year. They can go on the wall, on your mantle, on the tree, or, my favorite, on top of a present as a gift tag. You can even make them in multiple sizes.
My 3D Star is another fun idea that is pretty simple to make and can add a bit more depth and elegance to your decor. I love the idea of making stars like this and displaying them on the mantle among some fake snow.
They fit right in next to my easy pallet Christmas tree decoration.
Where Can I Find Colored Cardboard?
Colored cardboard is one of those things you don't notice often in craft areas, but it does exist. I have been known to use colored cardboard from boxes and packages I have received, but I also love that often it can be found at the Dollar Tree nearby. I've also seen it on occasion at my local craft stores.
If you can't find colored cardboard, you can look online at Oriental Trading, Amazon, or even Hobby Lobby. Another option is to simply spray paint or use craft paint on a piece of plain cardboard, the color you prefer to use.
These are a great addition to the mantle, just like this mitten Christmas garland or my homemade snowman decorations. Both are easy to match to this simple star decoration and add a bit of whimsy to your decor.
Where Should I Display My Star?
If you add a bit of string to the back, you can easily add these to your Christmas tree. Another option is to put them on your mantle, put them inside a picture frame as a framed star, or even onto a wreath.
I love the idea of adding them to the top of a Christmas tree as the tree topper when you are decorating with rustic decor.
It pairs beautifully with these rustic twig Christmas tree ornaments, my rustic music sheet lantern decoration, or this fun rustic hazelnut ornament.
You could even add it to this rustic wreath made out of cardboard and yarn! There are so many great possibilities for using this as a Christmas decoration.

How to Make Christmas Star Decorations
You will start by tracing a star onto the red cardboard. You can do this freehand or use a template.
Now, you will cut this out, and use it as a template to cut the brown cardboard star out, only make it about ½" smaller around all sides.
Now, you will glue the brown star onto the red star and center as you are able.
Next, you will use the rustic thread and create a small bow to glue into the middle of the star.
Top the middle of the bow with a red button.
Now, you can add a piece of twine to the back to hang on the tree.

Great idea for all those packages we get throughout the year. I'll be on the lookout for colorful cardboard at stores -- and in packages. Thank you!
