What Paint Should I Use for This Pasta Frame?
The easiest way to make this is to use spray paint. I used gold spray paint on mine as it was inexpensive and really added an extra look of refinement. You can pick any color of paint you prefer to make this unique for your home.
If you have extra time on your hands and want to get more detailed, you can easily use a paintbrush and craft paint. This method would cover each individual piece of pasta one at a time. While it would take longer, it could also provide a great way to add marbling or other paint textures to the frame.
Can I Use Different Pasta Shapes?
Yes! You can easily use whatever pasta you have on hand. Bowtie, like shown, are definitely the prettiest, but if you have elbow macaroni, rigatoni, or fusilli, they can all be used and look beautiful once painted. Simply pick what you have on hand in your home, or what happens to be on sale at the grocery store.

How to Make a Painted Macaroni Art Picture Frame
Gather your supplies together, and set out a newspaper or a drop cloth to protect your work area when painting.
You will remove the glass and image out of the picture frame and set those aside.
Next, you will use hot glue to add the pasta to the outside trim of the picture frame. I like to add a short line of glue then a few pieces of pasta, before adding another line of glue. This makes it easier to do 4-5 pieces at a time before the glue starts to dry.
Repeat this process all the way around the frame until there is pasta covering all of the frame in a neat line.
Next, you will take your frame outside or to a well-ventilated area, and spray paint the pasta until well-coated. I like to go over it 2-3 times to make sure all of the crevices are covered.
Once the paint has dried, you can add the glass back to the frame and place a quote or picture as desired.
