Recently, I posted a tutorial where I showed you how you can repurpose a plastic bottle into an Easter basket. In the spirit of that video tutorial, I have another one for you today, which will teach you how you can make a beautiful miniature Easter basket out of a regular plastic cup.
Usually we think about Easter baskets as something we give to our children filled with sweets and surprises. But Easter baskets can also make for wonderful décor for our homes—especially cute miniature baskets, which are ideal for holding one egg.

Lately, I’ve made a project out of figuring out ways to make miniature DIY Easter baskets. And most recently, I have found a way to do it using an ordinary plastic cup.
You can use any kind of plastic cup that you want for this project, but I suggest that you pick one that is either white or has a bright color that is fitting for the Easter holiday. I picked one which is a cheerful, sunny yellow.
It also has a ribbed texture to it which I think adds to the appearance of the basket in a pleasing way.
The other materials and tools you need are pretty basic. At a minimum, you’ll require pipe cleaners, a pair of scissors, and a hot glue gun. You’ll also probably want some Easter grass to put inside the basket, and some cute decorative embellishments.
If you are ready to get started, you can find the written instructions along with the video tutorial below. Let’s begin!
Step-by-Step Tutorial with Detailed Instructions:
How to Make a Beautiful Little Easter Basket Out of a Plastic Cup

Love transforming everyday objects into creative upcycled decor for the holidays? In today’s Easter craft video tutorial, discover how you can take an ordinary plastic cup and make it into a beautiful little Easter basket.
Materials
- Plastic cup
- Pipe cleaners
- Easter grass
- Ladybug embellishment
Tools
- Scissors
- Hot glue and glue gun
Instructions
- Use your scissors to cut down from the rim of the cup toward the bottom. Do not go all the way down. The bottom of your cup is the bottom of your basket. So visualize how tall you want the basket to be, and cut down to that point. Do this all the way around the cup, cutting again and again to create a series of “fringes.”
- The next step is a little tricky to put into words. I looped down each of the fringes and attached it between two of the others, creating a series of loops all the way around the top of the basket. I didn’t need to glue to do this, but if you are having trouble getting the loops to stay in place, you could use glue to get them to stick. I suggest watching the video to see exactly how to do this step.
- Now that your basket is ready to go, you need to attach a handle to it. To make the handle, twist two pipe cleaners around each other. I used green and yellow to create an alternating color effect. Pick any colors you want which complement your basket.
- When the handle is the right size, bend it into shape and use hot glue to attach it to your basket.
- You may now decorate your plastic cup Easter basket. I tied a little Easter grass to the top, and glued on a cute ladybug embellishment. You might also find other ways to decorate your basket.
- The finished basket is about the right size to hold one egg, or a few candies. Any small Easter decorations you might have on hand could also fit inside.
- In the photo above, you can see a couple of simple variations on this idea. Experiment and see what you like!
