In this video, find out how you can transform a regular plastic bottle into a lovely Easter basket. You won't believe how fast and simple it is!
What is awesome about this project is how ridiculously easy it is. In fact, you could make a whole bunch of these very fast if you wanted to, because there are only a few steps, and it only takes a few minutes to get your Easter baskets ready.
Another interesting thing about this project is that instead of going out of your way to hide the plastic bottle, you are actually going to take advantage of the material's transparent properties. You will leave part of the plastic uncovered.
This allows you to see through to the contents of the basket. If you select the right aesthetically appealing materials, they will help you to create a festive finished look.

How to Repurpose a Plastic Bottle Into an Easter Basket

Looking to get creative this Easter with ordinary crafting materials? You won’t believe what a stunning Easter basket you can make just by transforming a plain old plastic bottle. Find out how it is done in our Easter basket crafting video tutorial!
Materials
- Plastic bottle
- Pipe cleaner
- Foam sheets
Tools
- Scalpel or similar precision cutting tool such as an X-Acto knife
- Scissors
- Hot glue and glue gun
Instructions
- To make this project, you just need a regular plastic water bottle. Make sure that you have removed the labels and washed the bottle off so that none of the sticky residue remains.
- Once the bottle is clean and ready to go, use a precision cutting tool like an X-Acto knife to cut off the top of the bottle. You will be using the bottom of the bottle as the basket, so it is up to you how tall or short you want to make it. Just take your time with this step so that you can get the top of the basket as even as possible.
- The top edge of the basket is going to be sharp (even though it is plastic), which is something you obviously do not want. This step is going to help you to take care of that issue while also decorating and personalizing your basket.
- Select a foam sheet in a color that you like, and use a pair of scissors to cut a strip from it. It needs to be long enough that you can hot glue it around the circumference of the top of the basket.
- When you are gluing the foam strip around the top of the basket, make sure that it protrudes a little bit beyond the top. That way, the very top edge of the basket is not the sharp plastic edge that you cut, but the softer foam. You could even go a step further and cut a second strip of foam to glue around the inside of the top edge. That way, you could completely encase the sharp edge inside the foam.
- To create the handle of the Easter basket, hot glue a pipe cleaner to the top. I recommend that you make the handle somewhat long so that you can easily put items inside or remove them. You now have a functional Easter basket.
- You could call it "done" with the step above, but because the bottom of the basket is transparent, this craft is not really completed unless you put some thought into the presentation of its contents. What you put inside is entirely up to you, but try to choose materials which are aesthetically pleasing. You will notice that the Easter grass and feathers I picked are in colors which complement the orange that I chose for the basket handle and foam.
