One of the most enchanting things about the holiday season to me are Christmas lights. I really like mood lighting in general, so for me, nighttime during the holidays is simply magical. Everything seems to be bathed in a warm glow.

After I set up my Christmas tree this year, I got to thinking that I should look for other ways to bring light into my holiday decor. After I put my thinking cap on, I came up with an idea for an easy DIY Christmas project to really light up my home and bring holiday cheer to any room.

In this new video tutorial, I will be teaching you how you can turn an ordinary glass jar into a breathtaking frozen jar lamp for the holidays.

If you are intimidated by complex craft projects that involve lots of steps, you will find this one to be refreshingly fast and easy. I try to focus on simple holiday craft projects on this site, but this one is especially easy even by my standards.

Because this is such an easy project, it is perfect for kids or adults. Below, you can read a list of the materials and tools that you will require, followed by written instructions to accompany the video. Let's dive right in.

How to Make a Wintry Frozen Candle Jar Decoration

It only takes a few minutes to turn an ordinary glass jar into a beautiful homemade lamp for the holiday season. Wherever you place these in your house, you will create a festive atmosphere.

Materials

• Clear adhesive spray
• Artificial snow
• Clear glass jar
• Twine or ribbon
• Artificial holly
• Candle or tea light

Tools

• Scissors
• Hot glue and glue gun

Instructions

1. For this project, you will need a glass jar. The size and shape of the jar are up to you, but make sure that it will be large enough to contain the tea light or candle you have chosen. The jar should be clear.
2. I used a regular glass jar for this project, but you could also substitute a mason jar if you wanted to give your finished lantern some rustic flair.
3. Pour some artificial snow out onto your work surface. Spray the outside of your jar all around with clear adhesive.
4. Roll the jar in the artificial snow to coat it evenly around the outside. Apply as much or as little snow as you want.
5. Wrap some twine around the top of the jar. While I went with twine, you could also choose to go with ribbon.
6. Tie the twine in a bow.
7. Next, you will need a fake sprig of holly. If you need to cut it to size, do so.
8. Use hot glue to attach the holly to the twine at the top of the jar. Note that if you do not have hot glue, you can probably just use the twine to tie the holly in place. This is also an option if you're crafting with children who cannot use hot glue.
9. You have now finished making your frozen lantern. The last step is of course to put a candle or tea light inside. Because the top of the jar is open, it is safe to use a candle. But if you want to avoid an open flame, you can always use an LED light instead. Either way, the finished effect will be lovely.

Notes

Now that you know the basics for creating this rustic Christmas craft, you can easily modify the project with some simple variations. For example, you can add glitter to the mix with the artificial snow. Alternately, you could replace the holly sprig with a pine sprig instead. If you think on it, you may come up with other ideas of your own.

Bring Light and Warmth to a Cold Winter Night

One more optional material you could buy before you start crafting are some gift tags. These frozen jar lights make for wonderful handcrafted Christmas gifts. You can use the twine to attach the tags to your jars. It is certainly a more exciting gift than simply giving somebody a candle. It also does not require much more work or expense.

Because the jar is a jar, you could also stuff some other goodies inside for your recipient. Just make sure that the ultimate purpose of the jar (to serve as a wintry lantern) is obvious.
