Oftentimes, our old jeans are not really in suitable condition for thrifting, so that means we have to find other uses for them.

How to Make Drink Coasters Out of a Pair of Old Jeans

If there is one kind of fabric which is ridiculously versatile and always in style, it is denim. I am a huge fan of denim, and so is every member of my family, which is why it seems like we are always going through jeans. Here you'll learn how to turn them into drink coasters.

Materials

• Pair of old jeans
• Paper
• Plastic jug (it needs to have flat surfaces)
• Optional: glue or needle and thread

Tools

• Scissors

Instructions

1. Start by turning over a pair of old jeans and cutting out the back pockets. Note that you want the entire pockets, not just the material in front. They need to remain functional as pockets.
2. Next, cut out a piece of paper so that it is the right size and shape to fit inside the pockets (you may only need one since the pockets should be pretty much symmetrical, but just to be safe, you can cut two).
3. Following step 2, get a plastic jug which has flat sides. Empty it out, and use the pieces of paper as stencils to cut out matching pieces of plastic.
4. After you have completed step 3, you can slip each piece of plastic inside your denim pockets. Now they can hold drinks.

That’s the end of the video, but I would also optionally suggest that you close the pockets off using glue or stitches.

Although, there could be a benefit to leaving them open—namely that they would dry faster if your glass has condensation on it and gets one of the pockets wet.

Seriously though … blue jeans … and coasters. Those are two things I never would have thought could go together.

But lo and behold, old denim pockets make for awesome drink coasters. Have fun making yours and showing them off at your next party!
