I have owned the same bed for more years than I can count. All in all, it’s a fantastic bed and I love it—everything except for the headboard that is, which frankly is really boring. I have thought many times about replacing the headboard or the entire bed (or even building my own, like this project), but I have never brought myself to do it. I don’t want to get rid of the bed—just the boring headboard.
We actually have featured headboard ideas on the site before—there are 40 of them here. But it wasn’t until recently that I found a project that really suited me. Here it is on YouTube:
There are a number of steps involved, and this isn’t necessarily a beginner’s project, but it isn’t all that complicated, so I think I could take it on. I absolutely adore the colors she chose—the dark blue paint contrasts vividly with the pale blues, yellows, and whites you see in the upholstery panels. It has an old-fashioned, cozy charm to it which is perfect for a rustic bedroom.
So I am really going to do this—I am going to make my own upholstered headboard to finally beautify my bed. I am intimidated by this project, but I can’t wait to see the results. It is going to make my entire bedroom so much more elegant. With the other projects I’ve seen, making a headboard looked like way too much effort, but it is going to be totally worth it with this one! Read the full How Tos here.
