We have all purchased products which come with those little bags containing silica gel beads at one point or other. If you are like me, you always have thrown them away the moment you see them. I actually heard at some point that they were toxic. So I was always happy to be rid of them.
Now I don’t think I will ever throw out another one again! Check out these videos:
Not only are silica gel bags nontoxic, but they can be used for about a million different purposes around the house. If you want to buy some Amazon sells them here http://amzn.to/2ebMc2x.
As an example, we’ve posted before about saving your smartphone from water damage. It turns out that silica gel bags can help you to do that.
We have also posted in the past about clever ways to quickly defog your car windshield. Silica gel bags can speed that process up as well. What a smart idea!
There are only a handful of ideas in this short video; all of them are brilliant, and they have given me about a dozen more ideas just off the top of my head. This will be perfect for example for keeping mildew from building up in my shower bag or my beach bag. I am sure that while watching the video, you will come up with some cool ideas of your own. If you found this video useful, be sure to let us know how silica gel bags have helped you out around the house!

Hi Brite, I absolutely agree with you that I don't want to buy silica. I might buy it if I had a large amount of space I needed to de-odorize, or I needed to deodorize something quickly. So I went the slow and steady way -- each time I found a silica bag in something I bought, I tossed it into a plastic bag and sealed the bag. As more bags came my way, I added them to my sealed bag. You'll be amazed how that sealed bag grows over time. The hardest thing for me was to remember where I kept the bag. You have to have faith in silica's effectiveness to gather these little bags over time, but I can attest to the fact that it's worth having the patience to do so.

I don't see what the packs do for some of the items in the video

The video is incomplete because it does not show the results after using the packets.

I discovered the power of these little bags of silica when I inherited a pretty little party handbag and matching waist sash. They both had an aroma that caused them to be used. I put both in a ziplock bag and sealed it. I opened the sealed bag and took a snip. The aroma was still there, but a little less odious. I moved the bag and sash to a bigger bag, added several bags of the silica, and sealed the bag and left it for 6 or 7 months. The oder was dramatically reduced, but not gone. Every time I found a bag of silica in something I bought (bottle of prescription and over the counter medications are good sources). In all, it took about a year until the bag and sash were ready to use. Recently, I bought some nautical rope for crafting. The odor was unbearable, so I threw some bags of silica in a box with the rope, but I didn't put the cover on the box. I re-used some of the bags used elsewhere. To my surprise, the odor of the rope disappeared after just two months. I'm a believer of the power of silica to remove any unpleasant odors that come my way.
