Whether upside-down or right-side up, a wine glass makes a great little candle holder with which you can decorate your home during this exciting festive season. Or, if you want to spruce up your dinner table and glassware, you can use your newly decorated glasses for their intended purpose: enjoying some delicious wine alongside a delectable feast in true Christmas style.
I’ve put together five clever examples of different styles and techniques, so let these guide your own creativity as you get yourself ready for the celebration that lies ahead!
Jump to:
1. Christmas Characters
We’re all very well acquainted with the usual Christmas characters, like dear old Santa, his red-nosed reindeer, the grumpy Grinch, and the chilly snowman. These characters are fun to recreate on wine glasses, and you can really go all out with the embellishing, adding glitter, pom poms, ribbons, bells, and whatever else you may have in your crafting arsenal.
2. Snowman Votive
How cute is this little guy? I love the more realistic effect that you get from the snow medium, and once you pop a little LED light in the glass, the illumination looks fantastic. These aren’t for drinking, of course, but would look great as decorations on a mantelpiece or even as gifts.
3. Decorating with Sharpies
I’ve shown you how to personalize mugs with the help of Sharpies, and you can actually apply that same principle to wine glasses, too. Metallic gold and silver are the perfect colors for Christmas! A lovely idea would be to actually use these glasses at the dinner table and then allow your guests to take theirs home afterward as thoughtful little parting gifts and mementos of the night.
4. Sparkly Fun
Christmas is the perfect time to bring out the sparkle, so I’d take full advantage! A bit of paint and glitter can completely Christmas-ify regular wine glasses. You can use these purely as decoration, or you can actually keep them for their primary purpose; in the case of the latter, just make sure not to have any paint or glitter too close to the rim of the glass where your mouth would touch.
5. Simple Snowflake
As much fun as it is to go all out with the decorating, simplistic elegance may be more your thing. What I love about this pretty snowflake idea is that it’s Christmassy enough without being over-the-top, so you can reuse these glasses even once the festive holiday is over.
