This little holiday craft is super easy to make. It takes just a few minutes to make a wood slice flower. We added red glitter to make it fit the holiday theme, but you can use this same base tutorial to make flowers in any number of colors for holidays, seasons, or themes.

Should I Seal the Wood?
If you are keeping the flower decoration inside, you should not need to seal the wood slices. If you are going to display the glitter flower decoration outside, you might want to consider sealing the wood.
The decorations that you add can be worn away when it is outside from the weather. If you choose to seal the wood slices, you can use a spray sealer or you can use the kind that you paint on like Mod Podge. Even with the sealer, the weather can wear away the decorations. Once sealed, the flower should stay in good shape for at least a few years.
Where Can I Get the Materials For this Flower Decoration?
You can buy the wood slices from craft stores or big box stores. You can sometimes even find them at dollar stores too. If you can not find the wood slices locally, you can also buy them online. Many craft stores have online stores. You can use Amazon or Etsy, as well. Of course, you can get large branches from your yard to cut into slices. You can also find pine cones outside. Or order pinecones online as well.
If you are getting the materials from your yard and you are planning on keeping the wood slice flower decoration inside, you will want to clean the materials first. I recommend using a bleach solution to clean any crafting materials that you bring in from outside. Just submerge them into a gallon of water with 1 capful of bleach. Alternately, ¼ cup of vinegar in a gallon of water works well to provide a way to clean the wood and remove any insects that may be lurking in the crevices of the pinecones.
What Kind of Glue Should I Use
You can use hot glue or wood glue to hold the wood slices together to make the flower. When you are adding the glitter to the edges of the flowers you can use the same glue or you can use school glue. If you are planning on placing this flower outside, you will want to use a different glue because the school glue can easily wash away with the rain.
You can also use glitter glue or glitter paint if you prefer. I have even seen these made with strips of glittery ribbon or beaded ribbon glued along the flower edges.
Can I Paint the Petals?
The petals on my flowers are left natural because I love to see the natural wood show through. However, you can also paint the wood slices to give this decoration even more color. For this project, you can use craft paint or you can use spray paint if you are making a lot of flowers. Be sure to wait until the wood is dry after cleaning. Let the paint dry before adding the glitter.

How to Make a Wood Slice Flower
Slice or find wood slices that are cut at an angle in an oval shape. Clean them before use, and let them dry completely. Then, place a single round wood slice on a flat surface and begin gluing the angled slices onto the outer edge.
Add a petal with glue on the end and continue doing so around the edge until all are in place. You can use 5 to 6 petals, depending upon what size you want your flower to be once done.
Now, brush glue onto the edges of the petals, one at a time.
Sprinkle them with red glitter so the edges sparkle.
Shake off any of the extra glitter and continue until you are happy with the look of the flowers.
Now, spray the pinecone with an adhesive spray coating it well.
Then sprinkle the same red glitter over the pinecone so it coats it inside the crevices well.
Glue a small red bead or fake berry onto the end of the pinecone.
Now, glue the pinecone to the middle of the flower you created, flat end down.
Next, glue a stiff wire onto the back or bottom of the flower
Then glue the bottom curled end of that wire to the top of the log.
Next, you can line the top of the log with fake moss or leaves and glue them into place to cover where the wire is attached.
Lastly, glue a few fake leaves onto the wire stem to give a more natural flower look. If desired, you can also wrap the wire in green tape to make it appear more natural.
