Acorn Cap Glitter Ornament
This acorn cap glitter ornament is perfect for the holidays. It's a cute craft that you can make with your kids to enjoy during this festive time of year! This is a fun twist on any other type of glitter ornament and I know you are going to love it.
Make several of these glitter ornaments, in different colors or as a set of the same colors. You can also give these cute ornaments as a gift. Kids will love making them and seeing them displayed on the tree.
If you like glittery ideas, then you might really like this DIY sparkly ornament idea or even this plastic bottle snowflake ornament. Both add just enough glitter to pop against the holiday lights!
What Do I Use as The Base for This Ornament?
When you are making the base of this ornament, you want to make sure you are using a round solid object. I am using a styrofoam ball which I like to use because it is easy to find and they are inexpensive. The styrofoam also stands up well in this glitter Christmas ornament.
You can make your own paper mache ball, a little plastic ball that you glue items to, or even use a wooden bead or ball that you hot glue the acorns and glitter to before hanging.
How Can I Secure the Twine for Hanging?
The easiest way to secure the twine is to push it into the styrofoam ball. Then you want to make sure it is tightly in place by adding glue on top of it. This provides extra support to make sure the glitter ornament doesn't fall off the tree.
I've also wrapped the fishing line around the ball then glued the acorns over it to keep it in place. That gives you a way to hang it with a clear line that won't distract from the ornament or the tree decor.
Do I Have to Use Glitter?
I love glitter and I would use it on everything. however, if glitter isn't your thing or you would just prefer not to use it, you do not have to. You will want to make sure you are filling in the gaps around the acorns with something.
If you choose to skip the glitter, paint is a good option to fill in the caps and cover the base. Of course, if you are using a plastic or wooden bead, you'll want to paint it before you attach the acorn caps so everything is covered.
How Do I Customize My Ornament?
This is one of those really unique ideas that just can't be duplicated exactly every time, so customizing it is ideal. You can easily change things up with different colors or even a different ribbon on top of the ornament. I also like the idea of adding jingle bells at the top by the bow so it tinkles with noise every time it moves on the tree.
Other ideas include using beads, sequins, rhinestones, or similar items around the acorn caps instead of the glitter. Maybe even using raffia, rope, twine, or other items for hanging from the tree to give it a more rustic look!
Do I Have to Clean Acorn Caps Before Crafting With Them?
Whenever you are using materials you find outside in crafting, you want to clean them. This gets rid of germs and fungus that might be growing on them. It also helps them to last longer. You want to clean the acorn caps with a vinegar solution or you can use a bleach solution. Either one works well. Then, let the acorn caps air dry.

How to Make an Acorn Cap Glitter Christmas Ornament
Cut and tie a length of twine into a loop, then push the tied end into the top of the styrofoam ball. Add hot glue around the area to secure inside the ball for hanging.
Glue the acorn caps onto the styrofoam ball leaving a small space between each one.
Add glue between in all gaps, then sprinkle on the glitter and tap to remove any excess. Repeat until all open spaces are coated in glitter or an acorn cap.
Cut the gold and red ribbon and tie them together into a bow.
Glue a small bell in the middle of the bow.
Then glue the bow and bell over the loop of twine at the top.
Hang on to your holiday tree!
