Christmas is coming and it's time to start crafting. This Rudolph wreath ornament craft is a great way to get into the holiday spirit! It's easy, fun, and festive. You can make one for yourself or give them as a gift to your friends and family. Add some fake berries, a bit of greenery, or some fake snow to make them truly unique.
Rudolph Wreath Ornament
I love crafting ideas that are simple to make, do not take a lot of time, and use simple materials that you might already have on hand. Use this wreath ornament design and make it your own. Create ornaments for your tree, make them as gifts or add them to gifts as a decorative element.
If you like reindeer or Rudolph in particular, check out this little classic cinnamon stick Rudolph idea. The kids love this one. Plus you could also make this Rudolph Christmas garland or even the classic clothespin reindeer that we all made as kids!
What Can I Use as the Base Ring for the Ornament?
The best part about this wreath ornament is that you can use anything as the base. While I used a basic Styrofoam circle, any type of ring will work. You can use a shower curtain ring, which is super easy to find in your own home or cheap at the local Dollar Tree.
Other options include wooden craft rings, a metal ring like a mason jar lid, or even a piece of cardboard you have cut into a circle. The options are limitless - just get creative and use your imagination!
Do I have to Add Rudolph to My Ornament?
The Rudolph that is added to the wreath ornament is a small wooden embellishment. Similar ones can be found in craft stores. You can use something similar, like other Rudolph designs, or you can use something completely different like Santa, a Christmas tree, or other Christmas or winter designs. If you do not want to add a small element, you can skip it completely. It's just a fun addition that makes it unique from other wreath ornaments.
Can I Wrap in Ribbon Instead?
You do not have to use twine to wrap this wreath ornament. Anything you have on hand can work, including ribbon. Below are some more ideas that work great for creating the cover of the ring.
- Ribbon
- Raffia
- Rope
- Yarn
- Thick string
- Lace ribbon
- Burlap ribbon
- Washi tape in solid colors or patterns
- Strips of felt or fabric
Get creative and make your own wreath unique with any number of fabric, ribbon, or similar items to wrap around it for a new look. I love twine for the rustic style, but you can easily customize it to match the rest of your decorations with different items.
Can I Make This With My Kids
This wreath ornament is a great idea to make with kids. Even very young children can make this ornament, and as an added bonus, this can be great for hand/eye coordination and small motor skills.
The only thing of concern is the glue issue. While hot glue is my go-to option, you can use any craft glue for this wreath. Even kids school glue like Elmer's glue would work for most of the elements included.
If using white craft glue, just know that it takes a bit longer to dry and it might be a little bit less sturdy for using year after year. Make sure you are allowing the wreath to dry before touching it again. Also, keep the pieces secure, using pressure until the pieces are in place and until the glue has a chance to try.
Supplies Needed
- Styrofoam ring
- Twine
- Miniature reindeer sticker or figurine
- Holiday greenery or berries
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
How to Make a Rudolph Wreath Ornament
Glue the end of the twine to the styrofoam ring, then begin wrapping it around the ring.
Add glue every few inches to secure in place until completely wrapped and no styrofoam is showing through.
Glue the reindeer figure, holiday greenery, and berries on the top over where you have placed the hanger.
Cut an additional shorter length of ribbon or twine and create a loop then glue or tie around the ring for hanging.
Now you can add any other embellishments or spray with fake snow and hang them on your holiday tree!

Pick out a few beads to replace the berries if holiday picks are hard to find.
