Rope Snowman Christmas Decoration
When it comes to Christmas decorations, you need something that is both festive and affordable. The problem with most Christmas decorations is that they are either too expensive for your budget or not very attractive in the home.

It only takes a few supplies and a few steps to create your own snowman. It's an excellent choice for anyone on a budget, and while ideal for Christmas, it works throughout the winter season. What Can I Use for the Snowman Base?
The easiest thing to use to make the snowman Christmas decoration is styrofoam balls. The balls are easy to find, glue together, and they are inexpensive. However, you can use anything that is small and circular. Below are a few more ideas for the base of your snowman.
- Plastic balls like toys or from other crafts.
- Wooden balls for a stronger option you can get in craft stores.
- Plastic ornaments you've removed the hook top from.
- Rounded glasses or bowls for a larger option, just be careful if they are actual glass that they are placed somewhere safe so it won't get broken.
When you are picking the materials for the base of the snowman, think about anything that is the right size and circular. Use your imagination and explore what you already have on hand to make your snowman truly unique.
Can I Use Something Other Than Rope on the Snowman Body?
This rope is perfect for making the snowman body because it is sturdy and holds in place well. Also, it is already white, so no painting is required.
However, you can use almost anything white. You can use white twine or yarn. White shoestrings can also be used to wrap the body of the snowman. I've even seen someone make "plarn" from white plastic bags that would look really cool on this! Just lay the bags out flat, twist them together, and then tie or "crochet" to make a rope.
How Should I Customize My Snowman?
There are so many easy ways to customize this snowman. Just think back to your childhood and the different ways you decorated the real snowmen in your yards! Use that for inspiration as well as some of the ideas below.
- Use a real top hat, different colored items for a hat, or add different embellishments to the hat.
- Change up the scar with a bow tie, regular tie, or glittery yarn/rope to make it sparkle.
- Add different items like buttons, beads, or sequins as the buttons on the "coat".
- Paint, draw or create eyes, mouth, and nose with markers, paint pens, or yarn instead.
- Glue on a mini pipe or mini corn pipe in his hand or on the face.
Can This Be Hung on a Christmas Tree?
This snowman Christmas decoration can easily be hung on the tree. It will make such a cute ornament too. There are 2 ways that you can make this an ornament easily. You can use an ornament hanger through the hat or you can add a string or piece of yarn. If you want something that you can not see when hanging the snowman decoration, you can also use a fishing line.

How to Make a Snowman Christmas Decoration
Use a knife to cut the ends of the balls to create a flat base on both ends.
Glue the two balls on top of each other.
Starting on the top, begin gluing the rope to the styrofoam balls.
Wind the rope around holding tightly against itself as you move down and around the ball. Glue every few turns to secure.
Once the balls are completely covered, set them aside.
On a piece of cardboard, trace a foot shape, sort of a large "8" shape. Cut out two of these.
Glue the feet to a piece of black cardstock, and then trim off any excess cardstock so only the foot shape is covered.
If wanted, glue white rope around the outside edge of the cardboard on each of the feet.
Set the feet flat with the black side facing up and feet at a slight angle. Glue the feet together at the back.
Next, glue the rope snowman body to the top of the feet.
Attach a black hat to the top of the snowman. I used some random items that created a hat shape, but you can use whatever you prefer.
Cut two 3" pieces of rope and hold them together.
On one end, add a dab of hot glue, then attach the rope to the two pieces of rope, and begin winding around it to create an "arm".
Repeat this to create two arms.
Cut out 2 small red felt pieces and attach one on each arm.
Attach the arms to the top ball toward the bottom of it to create the arms on your snowman.
Cut and glue a piece of ribbon around the middle "neck" of the snowman.
Glue beads or buttons on the middle of the bottom part of the snowman body.
Add buttons or beads to create eyes just below the snowman hat.
Cut and glue an orange triangle nose and a small black smile onto the face.
Add ribbon or holiday embellishments onto the hat if desired.
Finish your snowman with a few extra decorations if desired then display them on a shelf or mantle!
