DIY Cute Hanging Burlap Reindeer Garland Decoration
Decorating with garland is one of the easiest ways to add a little more Christmas to any room! For dressing up the Christmas tree, it's a must-have! It's incredibly simple to set up and looks good just about anywhere you put it. Sadly, though, they'll run you a pretty penny at the stores nowadays. On the other hand, they're as easy to craft as they are to decorate with!
You can use this garland craft to add to your decor collection, so you don't have to throw away a fortune at the home goods store! Below we'll look into some detailed step-by-step instructions with photos, as well as a video to get you started on making these. Where will you hang these adorable reindeer?
Can I use Different Material for the Reindeer Pennants?
Absolutely! This clever design allows for any type of material you've got lying around. And of course, any other one you might have a preference for. We love burlap because it adds a cozy, rustic look and feel to this adorable decoration. Reach for different types of fabric, or textiles when making this craft to customize it to your liking!
Depending on what you choose, you might have a harder time applying decorative odds and ends to it. A lighter fabric, for instance, has the potential to easily fill, wrinkle, and not cooperate well with the pieces you've got to glue to this garland. Burlap is great since it's sturdy and easy to work with!
How Can I Make This More Durable?
If you're concerned about the reindeer becoming loose or easily falling, there are a few precautions you can take. (Or if you've got curious cats prowling around like me!) In our instructions, we'll ask you to simply clip the triangular pieces of burlap (reindeer!) to the ribbon using clothespins. Since these double as our reindeer's antlers, they're not exactly removable! You could, however, add a small dab of glue to the inside surface of the clothespin when you crimp it onto the burlap. This would ensure that your reindeer aren't flying off anywhere!
How Can I Customize This Craft Project?
There are a number of different ways you can make this turn out to be the perfect decoration for your house! The first and easiest is the length of this garland. If you want it to cover the tree without much fuss, you can opt for a much longer strand. Simply add more ribbon and deer to make for a strand of garland that's easier to hang around your tree!
Supplies Needed:
- Burlap
- Decorative red orbs
- Ribbon
- Clothespins
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
How to Make a Cute Hanging Burlap Reindeer Garland Decoration
First, cut triangles out of the pieces of burlap fabric. Make sure they're roughly the same size by placing one on top of the other to use as a sort of stencil. Cut as many as you'd like for the length of the garland.
Next, you can hot glue gun the googly eyes and red nose piece into place. The eyes should be spaced evenly, with the nose on the bottom point of the triangle.
These reindeer are nearly complete! The only thing left to do is to crimp the clothespins onto the top of the piece of burlap. Make sure the ribbon and burlap are both pinched using the clothespins so that everything stays in place.
This is what your completed reindeer garland should look like!
