The starting point of any bedroom is a good bed. Not only do you need something that lets you enjoy your peaceful slumber in warmth and comfort, but since the bed acts as the focal point of the room, you need something that looks really good too. Unfortunately, big, beautiful beds can get very expensive, so if you can find the time to put your hands to work, then you can build your very own gorgeous customized bed for a fraction of the price.
Simple Wooden Frame
I really love the look of this bed frame because it seems very solid and sturdy. That headboard and the integrated light system is what really impresses me the most, though! And can you believe, the entire project only cost about $300 to make?

Floating Bed
This platform bed uses such a clever design that it truly looks as if the bed is hovering like some sort of alien space craft. Very futuristic! The indented platform isn’t visible when looking at it from a regular standing up position, and the lights underneath really just add to the drama.

Bed with Floating Nightstands
Sometimes I really marvel at the creativity of some people. I’ve never even thought of building floating nightstands on to a bed frame like this, but now that I’ve seen it, I can’t picture my life without it! If you’re keen on recreating this modern structure then all you’ll need is about $400 for all the materials. Not bad!

Frame with Wooden Headboard
This bed frame is nice, but I have to say that the headboard is the real showstopper for me. The reclaimed wood just looks so full of character! Thankfully, the process is quite a simple one; making something that’s sturdy and gorgeous isn’t actually that tough.

Simple White Bed Frame
This may look like a regular bed frame, but there are some little touches that really stand out; the bottom plank that connects the two front legs, for example, gives it an elegant touch of modernism. They’ve also included a purchase list for different sized beds so that you can customize with ease.

Stately King Bed
This bed is big, boastful, in-your-face, and it’s absolutely gorgeous! It looks like something that belongs in a farm house or beach house with that rustic wood. You could, however, stain it a much darker color if you want more of a modern twist.

Pallet Frame
Reclaimed pallets serve as fantastic sources of material for a number of inventive projects, and a bed frame certainly is not exempt from this list. The pallet bed frame is really easy to make, too, so it’s perfect for novice carpenters.

Pipe Bed Frame
Who would have thought that pipes and pipe fittings could be put together in such a way to create this stunning bed frame? I am head over heels in love with this modern industrial look – it’s just so different! If you get your pipes cut ahead of time then you won’t even need a full day to assemble it.

Ikea Cabinet Bed
Ok, so this is going to sound strange, but trust that it’s pure genius. Someone came up with the brilliant idea to use doorless cabinets as the basis for a bed frame. This means that not only do you have minimum building work, but you now also have extra storage hidden away under there.

Clever Storage Bed
Here’s another clever little hack that uses shelving units to create a raised platform bed. With all that ample storage space, it’s the perfect solution to a slightly smaller kid’s room that needs to maximize on floor space.

Upholstered Colette
If you can avoid spending $1,600 and only have to dish out $270 on materials, then spending a weekend on your own build should be a no-brainer. Plus, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you did this all with your own two hands – the sleep will be so much sweeter.

Storage seems to be an issue with me since I’m quite a hoarder, so I’m always looking for helpful storage ideas to keep my clutter organized. This platform bed is the answer to all my problems since it has six large pull-out drawers that I can pack full of shoes and everything else that takes up space.

Here’s another clever platform bed that integrates a good amount of storage space. The sheer size of this bed is just magnificent, and the fact that it can easily wheel around is just so cute. If you’re the type who loves to change their room around a lot, then those wheels will come in handy!

95% of this stuff is oober expensive. I need a DIY I can find around my house not in my wallet. 🙁
Jimbo
So... you need to look around your house.
No-one here knows what is in there except you.
ramsey eden
that boat bed looks frightening. I guess I'm just not into kids living on the edge.

Not to sound like a whinger, but it would be worth noting for any person reading the comments before reading this article that you WOULD need access to some fairly serious home tools in order to build most of these. I dont have a jig, router, bandsaw, or anything like that (nor the space or funds to install the aforementioned).
Aso please check your article links, there seem to be some of these that are out of date now.
Kitwench
Not really.
I do a lot of DIY furniture and other projects without any of the above.
My main tools are a drill/driver set, a circular saw, TWO work surfaces/workbench/old dinged up tables the same height - one by the wall and one I can move, and a few clamps.
I recently picked up a $15 hand sander, but then, my hands are getting a bit old for too much hand sanding 🙂

Built the Rustic Romantic Bed frame last Christmas and we really love it! Very solid and good looking frame. Now a friend wants to make the same bed, but the link to the plans doesn't work anymore. Is it possible to fix the link or send me the details some other way? Thanks
fred

I'm looking to make a bed in a single room. The room has a box at one end that cannot be moved. Any ideas or advice would be great, please?
