Oh my goodness! This little upcycled planter chicken is absolutely adorable! What a perfect little Easter decoration to make with your kids. Seriously, this is so easy and turns out just perfect. A bit of paint, a small flower pot, a Styrofoam ball, and you have a cute little chick to add to your Easter decor. What are you waiting for?
Upcycled Planter Chicken
I am an absolute sucker for a good upcycled flower pot craft. This little miniature planter turned into a chicken is just too cute for words. I, of course, love the red gingham pattern on this ribbon, but you could use any color ribbon you prefer to make this match the rest of your Easter decor. Of course, one of the other great things about this craft is that it is so easy to make!

Can I Use Something Else as The Base?
If you don't have a small flower pot or planter on hand, you can use any jar or even box as a base for this little chicken. You just want it to have some kind of similar size and shape as the head. Just paint to match, and decorate as you wish and you can turn it into a cute little chicken.
Some other options I like for using as a base are:
- Empty condiment jars
- Baby food jars
- Shorter soft drink bottles
- Soft drink cans
- Tin cans
What Ways Should I Use This to Decorate?
Since this is a smaller craft, you can easily add this just about anywhere in your Easter decor. Of course, you can make this larger if you want, with just a few adjustments. I love the idea of adding this to your mantle alongside one of our fun Easter garlands. You could use this cute Easter egg old book garland and the egg and carrot Easter garland that both would work great by this little chicken.
You can also add this to your centerpiece by placing it on a platter and surrounding it with some decorated eggs. These glitter Easter eggs and rustic twine Easter eggs are both great options. Tuck in a few spring flowers and some fake grass or hay, and you have a great little Easter centerpiece that is brightly colored and pretty!

How to Make an Upcycled Planter Chicken
Turn your planter upside down and glue the styrofoam ball to the bottom of the planter to create the top/head of the chicken.
Paint the styrofoam ball and planter yellow and set aside to dry.
Once the paint has dried, you will cut out and glue on a small orange beak for the nose, and the googly eyes for eyes.
Add the pom poms to the sides for wings.
Glue a few of the feathers to the back of the chicken so they poke out over its head.
Now, use the ribbon and raffia to create a bow and glue onto the "neck" between the styrofoam ball head and planter.
Cut out a small red "comb" to go on top of the chickens head and glue it in place.
Lastly, glue a bit of ribbon around the base of the planter.
Now you can add this cute little chicken to your Easter decorations!
Crafter's Tip
If making this with kids, you can save time and mess by painting the pieces ahead of time. You can also purchase yellow practice golf balls to use instead of the styrofoam ball for the head. They are a bit dimpled, but make a great option that is already the color you want!
This year I have really enjoyed making chicken decorations for Easter. This flower pot chicken craft is a favorite, but I also love this mason jar chicken jar vase and wine glass chicken candle holder. A bit different is this bucket chicken decoration. So cute!
