If you haven't tried quilling yet, this is a great beginner choice. This paper quilled rose heart wreath is absolutely stunning! A gorgeous choice to add to your front door, porch, or just to hang on the wall during February for Valentine's Day. It's also a gorgeous choice year-round as a fun Parisian style accent to any room.
Paper Quilled Rose Heart Wreath
Some time back, we shared this paper flower ball decoration. It was one of my all-time favorite quilling projects. So, when Valentine's Day loomed on the horizon, making a new wreath using the same process was a must. The combination of old book pages, some simple decorative artificial roses, and this gorgeous wreath became reality.
If you want another great option for Valentine's Day, then you can make this simple paper heart garland, this glittery hearts wreath, or this no-sew fabric Valentine wreath. So many great ways to decorate for the day of love!
What is Paper Quilling?
Paper quilling is the art of using long thin strips of paper and rolling them to create different shapes. This can be used simply in something like this rose heart wreath or can be used to create much more complex craft pieces. The beauty of this is that it takes very minimal supplies and really only takes time to complete.
Do I Have to Use Old Book Pages?
No, you don't, but I prefer using them as a means to upcycle something I have on hand. You could definitely do the same thing and process with any number of paper types and styles. I would recommend a slightly thinner paper for faster manipulation into the rose shape. You could also grab some simple Valentine-themed craft papers for this project.
If you have extra book pages leftover after this craft, you could make these gorgeous paper flowers from old book pages. I adore these and love how they would fit into the rustic theme for any holiday.

How to Make a Quilled Rose Wreath
You will begin by tracing and cutting out circles of paper from the old book pages. I used a small empty tuna can to draw around for my template.
Once you have the circles of paper cut out of the paper, you will then begin cutting them into a long continuous spiral as shown.
I started on the outside of the circle, and just begin cutting and turning until I was left with a small circle in the center.
Next, you will start in the end of the outside piece, and begin rolling it around a small stick or pen. You could use the ink cartridge from a pen, or even a small skewer for this.
Continue wrapping the paper around the stick until it is completely used and a flower shape has formed. At this point, gently remove your stick from the center and glue the end in place with craft glue.
You will repeat this process until you have between 60-100 roses. The number will depend upon how large your wreath form is, and how large you make each rose.
Once you have all of the roses ready, you will begin attaching them to the wreath form with craft glue until the entire form is covered.
Continue this process moving in rows until all of the wreath is covered in paper roses.
Now, place a few artificial roses in random places around the wreath for pops of color, securing with craft glue.
Next, you will use your burlap ribbon (or any ribbon you prefer) to create a large bow for the top of the wreath.
Attach the bow and a wreath hanger.
Display on a wall or door as you prefer.

I remember watching my granma doing these and the reader digest Angel's for christmas when I was little. She would paint or spray paint the Rose's and spray paint the folded pages of the digest for the angels
