I've fallen in love with making 3D crafts. It all started with this 3D paper lantern. Any piece of paper with a few snips of scissors and some glue can magically become a great 3D craft or card.

What Is the Best Paper for 3D Cards?
Any paper you have on hand will work, but I find that a thicker or stiffer paper works best. Craft papers are fine, but I like nice card stock for making 3D cards. This hot air balloon is a great first project if you aren't familiar with papercrafts. It is simple enough for a child to create, but it looks like an expert made it for gifting.

Can I Mail This Like a Regular Card?
Yes! Just make sure you take this one into the post office and have them weigh it before you drop in the mailbox. Sometimes this type of homemade card will weigh more than a traditional one and need extra postage. Another tip for this type of card is to make a homemade envelope that matches the card theme.

How to Make a Hot Air Balloon 3D Valentine's Day Card
For this craft, begin by cutting 4 hearts out of red craft paper. Each piece will be just slightly smaller than the one before. Fold each of them in half so they aren't completely flat.
Now, you will fold a piece of brown craft paper in half to form a card.
Begin gluing the hearts onto the card by placing the largest one on the upper half of the folded brown paper Add glue just to the middle fold, and press until it is sealed against the paper, but the sides of the heart are still loose.
Continue this process with the other hearts. Add these largest to smallest, connecting each in the center with glue.
Once they are in place, you will use the black marker to draw a hot air balloon basket and lines connecting it to the red hearts.
The next step is to cut cloud shaped pieces of white paper to attach around the hot air balloon.
Once all clouds have been glued in place, you can add a personalized message on the inside and address for the mail or display on a table or counter.
