Where Can I Find Chalkboard Paper?
You can readily find chalkboard paper online at Amazon, but I have also found it at my local Hobby Lobby. It isn't as commonplace as some mediums, but it is easy enough to find that you should be able to have some on hand for this craft.
If you can't find the rolls of chalkboard paper, you can look for round chalkboard labels that might work well for this if they are similar in size. Another option is to pain these with chalkboard paint, let them dry, and then hang on your tree instead.

What If I Don't Have a Drill?
It's okay if you don't have access to a drill for this ornament. Instead of drilling a hole through the top of the wooden slice, you can use a good quality craft glue or hot glue to attach your loop of twine to the back for hanging.
Depending upon the thickness of your wood slices, you may be able to use a nail and hammer it through the wood to create your hole instead of drilling. Some woods are also soft enough to simply use a screw to screw through the wood and then remove to leave an empty hole for stringing the thread through to hang.
I think these ornaments are rustic enough they would look great next to my rustic sheet music lanterns on the mantle!
Supplies Needed

How to Make a Wood Slice Chalkboard Ornament
For this ornament, you will begin by using a drill bit and creating a small hole at the top of your wooden slice. This only has to be big enough to push your rustic thread through for hanging on the tree.
Now, you will use the chalkboard paper and trace a circle using the wood slice as your template. Leave the piece slightly smaller than the wood slice to keep the rustic look.
Peel off the sticky side and apply it to one side of the wood.
Poke a hole through where the hole has been drilled and thread your rustic twine through and tie the end into a knot.
Using chalk, add a simple message to each ornament to customize before hanging on your tree.
