3D Christmas Tree Card
If you've always wondered how people make 3D objects - this is a perfect introduction. I adore the idea of making homemade cards, these are some homemade Christmas card ideas I made last year and love.
This year, I wanted to do something a bit different. This simple 3D card displayed on a table with some of this easy to make 3-ingredient snow really lights up the room.
As I have been trying my hand at 3D crafts like my 3D radiant lanterns, 3D snowflakes, and 3D paper lanterns. Since I finally got the style down, I decided to share more ideas with you on how to use the 3D method to enhance crafts, and especially paper projects like this one.
What's the Best Paper to Make This Christmas Card?
For this easy craft, I think the best paper is a sturdier craft paper. Construction paper or a light cardstock is ideal for holding their shape in the 3D tree. If you have only copy paper on hand, you can use it, but it may need more glue to keep it sturdy on display.

Can I Mail This Like a Regular Holiday Card?
Yes! You can definitely add this to any envelope and mail it just like you would a purchased holiday card. All you have to do is make sure you put it in an envelope with proper postage.
As it may be thicker or heavier than a basic Christmas card, this 3D Christmas tree card should be weighed by the post office before dropping into the mailbox. Make sure you have enough postage or it will come back to you!
If mailing these out to family and friends, have your kids make these color your own ornaments to add to the card as part of the gift. Such a fun way for them to participate.

How to Make a 3D Christmas Tree Card
To begin this card, you will need to fold your red paper in half and set it aside. I used a standard sheet of paper, but you can adjust to fit the size of the paper you have on hand.
Next, you will begin making the tree to go in the middle of your card. You will take the green lighter piece of paper and fold it in a zig zag like a paper fan.
Repeat this process making the folds the same size until you get to the end of the paper. As seen above, you will be folding the longer side of the paper for this project.
At the end of this "fan" process, you will begin to make the tree.
Cut the green paper into small pieces to add inside your tree. Do these at varying sizes until you have one that is short. I made them around 2", 1 ½", 1" ½" in size. You could do larger pieces as long as you gradually get smaller.
Once all of your "tree" pieces have been cut, you will fold them in half individually and glue those pieces to the inside fold of the red card. You will glue the folded side into the card with the open sides facing outward as shown.
Glue these with the largest at the bottom and smallest on top.
Next, you will use your gold foam board or paper and trace a small star shape to cut and glue on top of the smallest "tree" trunk inside the card.
Decorate the inside of the red card with gold sticky stars or other stickers and dots of glitter as desired.
