What Ribbon or Yarn Should I Use for This Ornament?

For mine, I used a thin yarn but a thicker ribbon. This is made from cotton and is different than your typical synthetic fiber yarn. You can easily use any type of ribbon or yarn you prefer, but I find a thicker ribbon works best.

Just make sure whatever option you use will retain the shape of the tree well for you after it is done being made.

Can I Use Beads on This Handmade Christmas Ornament?

How to Make Ribbon Handmade Christmas Ornaments

Gather your supplies together and make sure you have everything needed on hand.

To begin, you will add a needle to your thread. I used a thicker embroidery thread for better security on the ornament.

Using your yarn, you will begin folding in layers and running the thread through the center of the tree layer.

After every 1-2 folds, you will slip the needle through a pearl to attach before ging to make another layer of yarn folds.

Make sure your needle and thread are going through the middle of the larger yarn and pearl pieces to look like a tree trunk with branches. Your pearls are the base of your trunk.

Continue this for 6-7 layers of "branches" getting smaller as you go along until you are down to just the size of a pearl.

Add the final pearl on top of the tree and secure the thread with a large knot.

Leave additional thread at the end of the treetop to loop and tie for an ornament hanger.

Instructions

Begin your handmade Christmas ornaments by adding a thread to your needle;
You will push the needle through the middle of a piece of yarn, folding it over to create a "branch";
Once the needle is through, you will thread it through a pearl, then add another layer of yarn "branch";
Continue this process making each branch slightly smaller as you work your way to the top;
Once at the top of your ribbon tree, you will finish by threading through a final pearl;
Secure the thread with a large knot on top of the pearl, and an added loop for hanging;
Display on your holiday tree.
