If you have been trying to figure out how to add more fish to your meal plan, then my honey garlic glaze makes this the best-baked salmon recipe you will ever try.

What Internal Temperature Should the Garlic Salmon be for Safety?
When cooking any protein, the first thing to consider is how to make sure it is safe for consumption. While I always recommend safe practices when handling meats, including fish, the internal cooking temperature is really the most important part of safety.
The FDA recommends that salmon be cooked to at least 145ºF internally before consumption. To best test the temperature, remove the salmon from the oven and place the meat thermometer in the thickest part of the fish. If it has not risen to the appropriate temperature, continue cooking in 5-minute increments.
Does Honey Garlic Salmon Freeze Easily?
I am always sharing meals here that are great to make in advance to freeze for future busy evenings. This recipe, however, does not freeze and reheat well.
That said, you can definitely mix up the marinade and freeze. Just add the marinade with a salmon fillet in a freezer bag and pop it into the freezer to thaw and bake at a later date.
As always, make sure to properly label and date any food you put into the freezer so it can be used in a safe time frame. In this instance, salmon would be good in your freezer for 3-4 months.
What Should I Serve with Honey Garlic Salmon?
Since salmon truly is the star of the show with this recipe, your side dishes should be complimentary.
Most commonly, a starch-like rice pilaf, mashed potatoes, or a simple pasta will pair nicely with salmon. Additionally, basic steamed or roasted vegetables like broccoli, carrots, snap peas, or cauliflower are ideal.
Allow the salmon to be the star of the show. Use complementary sides to enhance the flavors or to allow the flavors to shine.
- Add lemon or lime to the rice for a brighter flavor that pairs well with baked salmon
- A simple buttered pasta with a garlic and herb flavor is not overpowering
- Garlic herb mashed potatoes are more than basic but still simple enough to not overpower the flavor of the salmon
- Steamed vegetables with a squeeze of lemon pair wonderfully and are a fast and simple option
What Salmon is Best for the Baked Salmon Recipe?
While salmon tastes pretty very similar no matter what type you purchase, there are differences. Many individuals will weigh in on whether you should purchase wild-caught or farm-raised. I will leave that to you to determine what you will buy. Below are my personal favorites.
The U.S. Atlantic Salmon is most readily found in the nearby markets and has a good flavor profile that works well with this particular recipe. Another great choice to consider is Sockeye Salmon. Coho Salmon is my final go-to when looking at salmon for a meal.
There are other options available in salmon. Depending on how it is raised, processed, and cost to you, there may be a different salmon you prefer. I recommend tasting different options to determine your own personal preference.
