One of my favorite ways to decorate is with candles. There is just something so relaxing about the glow of a candle. Recently, I was perusing Pinterest, and I found this amazing idea for turning empty tuna cans into tealight holders.
This little decoration is great. Not only is it an easy craft, but it has such a charming rustic appeal to it.

What Other Cans Can You Use To Make This Tealight Holder?
The thing is, you want to be able to see your tealight candles, so smaller cans are better for this craft. If you have any of those canned chicken cans, you can use those as well. I don’t recommend taller cans though, like the ones that you get canned veggies in.
How Do You Decorate Your Empty Cans?
I used Washi tape to decorate my little tuna cans, but you could also use paint or any number of other decorative techniques. Washi tape is a good choice because it is available in so many wonderful colors and designs.

Materials
- Empty Tuna Cans – You’ll need 5 cans for this project
- Thread
- Tealight Candles – You can use battery powered led candles if you want
- A Wooden Clothes Hanger
- Washi Tape
Tools
- Scissors
Instructions
- To begin, make sure that your cans are washed and dried. You certainly don't want the smell of tuna coming from your DIY candle holders.
- Decorate your cans using Washi tape – or whatever method of covering the cans that you have chosen to do. If you want a really rustic look, you can leave the cans uncovered or paint them a rustic grey.
- Make sure to cover the entire can – all 5 of them – with your tape or other decoration.
- Use thread or twine – twine has a beautiful rustic look to it – to attach your decorated cans to the wooden hanger.
- Cut a piece of thread or twine and tie one end around one can.
- Tie the other end of the thread or twine onto the clothes hanger. You can also add some of those small wooden clothespins to secure it even more – and to give it an even better rustic look.
- Repeat this process until all of your cans are attached to the wooden hanger. You can toggle the length of your thread to make some of the cans hang lower than others. This gives your DIY tealight holder dimension.
- Add in your tealight candles and hang your new candleholder on the wall. Your finished DIY tealight holder should resemble this one:
