Pinecones are some of my favorite fall accessories. Not only are they perfect for fall decorating, but they’re free. I can seriously walk out my front door right now and pick up hundreds of pinecones. And, if you don’t have access to them in your yard, you can get them at most craft stores, or even the Dollar Store, for very little. So if they’re not free for you, they’re at least really cheap and you can do so much with them.
I’ve been collecting pinecones since they started falling a few weeks ago and I have tons in baskets on my porch just waiting for a great fall décor project. So, I started looking for a few projects and found 25 of the most amazing things that you can do with pinecones! I have painted pinecones gold and used them for a centerpiece and of course, made birdfeeders out of them. Some of these pinecone projects, however, are genius. I never thought about using them to create Halloween décor or even making garlands out of them to hang on the Christmas tree. You just never know how useful something is until you see a DIY project and I’ve got a nice little collection of DIY pinecone projects for you. 1. DIY Pinecone Centerpiece
A wooden bowl, a candle and some pinecones give you the makings of a beautiful centerpiece. You can make this with things that you already have on hand…if you have a bowl and candleholder to use. Just put the candleholder and candle inside the bowl and then cover around the candleholder with pinecones. It’s an easy five minute project that will make a huge statement piece.

2. Snowy Pinecone Luminaries
Depending on where you live, fall may also mean snow, which makes these pinecone luminaries perfect for decorating. You’ll need mason jars, twine, pinecones and snow glitter to make these. They’re perfect for decorating side tables or you could make several and turn them into a gorgeous centerpiece. They’re also great for decorating from Thanksgiving all the way through Christmas.

3. Easy Hanging Pinecone Ribbons
This is the perfect fall and winter decoration if you have stairs. Even if you don’t, you can find somewhere to hang this lovely pinecone ribbon decoration. It’s so easy to make and only requires a handful of pinecones and ribbon to string it up. Just stick the ribbon through the top of your pinecones with thumbtacks and hang them wherever you want to add some rustic décor.

5. Easy DIY Pinecone Garland
Whether you’re decorating the stairs or mantel, or you just want something rustic looking for any room in the house, this easy DIY pinecone garland is perfect. You make it by stringing pinecones onto fishing line or string and then adding ribbons…if you want. You could do it without the ribbons but they do add a nice festive touch, don’t you think?

6. Gorgeous Framed Pinecone Art
If you can’t figure out just what to do with all of those pinecones, why not turn them into art? This DIY framed pinecone art is so easy to make and is perfect for your fall and winter decorating. Just hot glue ribbon to the tops of your pinecones and hang the in an old frame – minus the glass. You could paint the pinecones if you wanted to add a bit more color, but I think they’re perfect just the way they are.

8. Halloween Pinecone Spider
This little spider is anything but scary and he’s perfect for your Halloween/fall decorating. You can hang these up inside or out and they only take about five minutes to make. You use brown pipe cleaners for the legs and google eyes and then hang them up with string or fishing line. How easy is that? And, you have plenty of time to make several before Halloween.

10. DIY Lighted Pinecone Arrangement
Who needs flower arrangements for decorating when you can use pinecones? I love this pinecone arrangement, and particularly love that it lights up. To make it, you just glue your pinecones onto a string of flowered lights. Or, you could do this in separate steps. Arrange your lights in a vase or a small bowl and you’re all set. This would be gorgeous on the mantel or on an entry table.

11. DIY Ombre Pinecones
Ombre pinecones are so simple to make and yet they make such a grand statement. Once you have these painted, you can use them in any number of decorating projects or just pile them all in a vase or bowl and use them as a centerpiece. Choose your colors and then Ombre each pinecone in shades of that color. these really are gorgeous and are perfect for fall and winter decorating.

12. Glittery Pinecone Bouquet
Add pinecones to a square vase with some glittery fabric and you have the perfect centerpiece for a side table. You make leaves with the fabric and then just arrange the leaves and pinecones to resemble a flower bouquet. How adorable is this for fall decorating? You could also paint the pinecones if you wanted to give them more color, although I think these are perfect for rustic fall décor just the way they are.

13. DIY Pinecone Candles
You can turn pinecones into the most adorable candleholders and all you need are the pinecones and some taper candles. You’ll need to remove a few of the needles from the pinecones to create a flat surface. Once that’s done, just use hot glue to attach your taper candles to the tops and you’re all done. You could also do this with tealight candles if you wanted something a bit smaller.

14. Pinecone Christmas Trees
These pinecone Christmas trees may take a bit of work, but they are definitely worth it when you see the finished result. To make these, you’ll need foam cones. Just cover the cones in craft paper or a brown paper sack. Then glue on the needles from your pinecones. These are gorgeous when they’re finished and such a wonderful addition to your fall and winter décor.

15. Pinecone Flower Garland
A few pinecones, some acrylic paint and some felt make beautiful flowers. You’ll also need wooden beads for this one. Just paint your pinecones the color that you want…or use a mixture of naturally colored pinecones and white ones…to create the flowers. You need to cut off the needles and glue them onto felt to make the flowers and then add a wooden bead for the center. String these all up on twine for a beautiful fall garland.

16. DIY Pinecone Roses
These gorgeous roses can be used to decorate indoors or out and they’re pretty easy to make. Paint pinecones the colors that you want and then add in some twigs that you’ll paint green for the stems. The leaves are made from scrapbook or craft paper. Once you have all your pieces painted, just hot glue them all together to create a gorgeous rose bouquet.

17. Pinecone Wreath
This pinecone wreath is actually made from the needles or bract of the pinecone. You will need to remove several and then glue them onto a wreath form. Foam forms work best for this. Once you have them all glued on, you can decorate your wreath however you like. This one is a bit time consuming as you need to remove the needles and then glue them all the way around your foam. It’s a great project for cool afternoons.

18. Easy Pinecone Scale Picture Frames
Pinecone bracts, scales, or needles…whatever you call them…are used to make these gorgeous little picture frames that you can hang on your Christmas tree with images of your loved ones. Or, you could make this on a much larger scale and use the frames to decorate all over the house. Just remove the pinecone bracts and then glue them onto regular picture frames.

19. DIY Pinecone Succulent Planters
I love succulents. They are so gorgeous and they’re so versatile. Plus, you can make beautiful planters out of just about anything…including pinecones. Just remove a few of the pinecone bracts from the bottom and use that area to add moss for planting your succulents. 20. Gorgeous DIY Pinecone Topiary
This topiary is as unique as it is gorgeous. It’s made entirely from pinecones and it’s perfect for decorating the porch from now until after Christmas. You use a Styrofoam ball and the tops of your pinecones to create the topiary. If you have plenty of pinecones around your house, you could easily make two of these – one for each side of your front door.

21. Fall Themed Pinecone Chandelier
This little wreath chandelier is great for decorating anywhere in the house and it’s super easy to make. You use willow branches to create the wreath form and then add your pinecones which hang down from string. The entire thing is gorgeous and you can add berries, evergreen twigs and other items to make it even more special.

22. Upcycled Cardboard And Pinecone Candleholder
I love any project that upcycles and this one uses upcycled cardboard to create a gorgeous pinecone candleholder. This one is so easy. You just shape your cardboard into a circle and then use hot glue to attach pinecones to it. Then slip a wide pillar candle into the holder and you have a beautiful decoration for the dinner table or mantel.

23. Easy Pinecone Ornaments

24. DIY Rustic Pinecone Centerpiece
What do an old box, some mason jars and pinecones have in common? They all give you the makings for a beautiful rustic centerpiece. Just place mason jars in a long wooden box and then fill in the empty spaces with pinecones. Use the mason jars as candleholders and you have the perfect fall and winter dressing for your dinner table. This would also look beautiful on a mantel or on your front porch.
25. DIY Snowy Pinecone Wreath
I love this easy snowy wreath that you can make with pinecones and artificial snow spray. Paint stirrers, which you can get really cheap at any hardware store, help you to make this gorgeous snowflake shape and once you have it all together, just spray it with artificial snow to give it that snowy appearance. This one is pretty easy to make and is one of the cheapest DIY wreaths I have seen.

You have many ideas I hadn't seen before...good job. I might suggest something that came from experience with pine cones. Rinse /wash them out with hot soapy water before even bringing them in the house. I stuck a bunch in my pocket one day til I got home and found them infested with TICKS!

Some people heat them in the oven on aroun 250 for a short time to kill any bugs.
