If you spend any time on Pinterest … any time at all … then you know that mason jars are the big thing right now. And you know what? I don’t care about the naysayers out there who say this is just a hipster trend … mason jars are awesome. You can make pretty much anything out of a mason jar. In fact, here are a dozen mason jar Christmas crafts, just in time for the holiday season. And here is one of my favorites, a project to make your own mason jar candles.
But did you ever wish that you could buy mason jars in different colors? Or better yet, wouldn’t it be awesome if you could tint a mason jar any color you wanted?
Now you can, with this awesome video tutorial:
The only supplies you need are the mason jar you want to tint, Mode Podge, a plastic cup, some food coloring, tin foil (or wax paper), and your oven.
The basic steps are easy. Preheat the oven to 175-200 degrees. Mix 4 tablespoons of Modge Podge in the plastic cup with your food coloring. Coat the inside of the jar. Set it upside down on your tin foil and let it dry for a few minutes, and then put it in the oven on a cookie sheet. Turn it every few minutes to make sure that you get an even coat. Eventually, it will turn clear, and it will be done. The result is unbelievably cool! So now your mason jar projects can be even more amazing than ever; you can produce them in any color you like! What would happen if you did this process and used the mason jar as a flower vase? Would the blue color hold or by putting water in the jar would it eventually wash off the color?

I use a 99 cent refillable ketchup bottle from Wal-Mart. Cut off the top and place inside the mason jar to hold flowers and water. Colored jars will get milky if wet but will go back to original color when dry. Not sure if it is left for too long if it will dry.
