It is important to always clean the acorn cap before you craft with it. It is especially important if you are getting the acorn caps from outside, but you should also do it even if you are buying them. While ones you buy from a craft store have probably already been at least washed for debris, these outside elements can bring in mites and small bugs. I like to make sure they are good and clean, just in case.

To clean them up, you can put them into a sink with a cap of bleach and let it soak for 30-minutes, then rinse them well and lay them out to dry before using them in a craft. You can also use vinegar instead of bleach if you prefer something less harsh that will still kill anything that might remain.

What Glue Should I Use to Secure the Bells?

There are several types of glue that will work for securing the bells to the acorn caps. If an adult is doing the craft, you can use a hot glue gun or even super glue. These glues will hold strong and will dry fast. Using superglue, E6000, or Gorilla glue is something you can do without needing a cord to plug in the glue gun, but they aren't necessary.

If kids are doing this craft, you do not want to use those glues. Hot glue and hot glue guns pose a burn risk for kids. Superglue, or other permanent glues like this, can glue little fingers together.

You will want to find a space and a way to set the jingle bell up to dry where it will not fall apart.
