A Gnome wine bottle cover is the perfect way to dress up your wine bottles this holiday season! These little gnomes are so adorable and will make a great addition to any table. They’re easy to make, too! You only need three items and glue to create this cute idea!
Gnome Wine Bottle Cover
When it comes to fast and easy last-minute gift ideas, a bottle of wine is always a hit. Dressing it up a bit with this gnome wine bottle cover is a great idea! This literally takes five minutes or less to assemble and is super fun to customize and make unique for your decor or the person you are gifting this to for Christmas.
If you like gnomes, you might also love my Christmas pom pom gnome ornament, paper gnome houses, or even this stuffed sock gnome. Of course, I have a fall witch gnome and an Easter bunny gnome too that are super cute and fun to make and share. What's not to love about a gnome?
What Can I Use for the Gnome Hat?
These gnomes are so easy to make. It is basically the hat and the beard. To make the hat of the gnomes, you just need something that will wrap around the top of the bottle. I used a piece of felt I had on hand, but the options are unlimited! Below are a few ideas I came up with to get you started.
- Socks without mates.
- Torn t-shirts.
- Holey sweaters.
- Scrap fabric.
- Foam paper.
- Old sheets or blankets.
This is the type of project that is ideal for helping you clean out your scrap fabric or craft materials! If you are like me, you never throw things away and have tons of items saved from years gone by. This is just one way to use them and make something totally new and unique!
What Makes a Good Gnome Beard?
The beard of the gnome completes the face and makes it so that you do not have to add any additional facial features. You want to use something that resembles a long beard of an old wise gnome. I grabbed a piece of scrap fake fur I already had and was able to make a beard out of it easily. Below are a few more ideas that can work for this craft project.
- A mop head (clean and cheap at the Dollar Tree).
- Raffia.
- Yarn.
- Twine.
- Fuzzy fabric.
- Scrap fabric twisted into strands.
Can I Customize My Gnome For Other Holidays or Events?
You can definitely make this gnome for other occasions, events, or holidays. The easiest way is to change the hat of the gnome. Use something that speaks to the holiday or occasion.
For example, if you are using the gnome wine bottle cover for Valentine's Day, you would want to use a fabric that is red or has hearts on it. For a birthday, you can use something with balloons or that looks like it has confetti on it. You can also add in the small celebration balloons on a stick to help customize the gnomes.
That's the best part of this craft - it's so versatile! You can use it for any holiday or event and easily customize it with what you have on hand in your craft supplies already.
What Decorations Can I Add To This For Christmas?
I love the idea of making this extra sparkly for the holiday season. Nothing beats a bit of glitter or fake snow to really make it feel like a great Christmas decoration or gift!
Add a few miniature stars, snowflakes, or similar little beaded holiday decorations to the hat that can really take it up a notch! And one super fun way to make this really Christmasy is to add miniature ornaments all throughout the gnome's beard!
Do I Have To Use This on a Wine Bottle?
While this is designed to be used on a wine bottle, you can certainly use it for other things. If you want to stick with the bottle theme, any type of bottle will work.
You can use sparkling cider or the kinds that are used to celebrate when you want something nonalcoholic. Another option you can use is specialty seltzer bottles.
It is best to use something that is similar to the same structure as a wine bottle. However, since you are making these yourself, you can also make them fit whatever type of bottle you like.
Can I Turn This Into an Ornament Instead?
You can use the idea of how to make this gnome wine bottle cover to make an ornament instead. To make it into an ornament, instead of gluing the beard to the bottle, add it to a styrofoam ball instead. Just glue a ribbon or hook on the back so it hangs on the tree and voila, you have a gnome ornament!
Do I Have to Glue It Directly To The Bottle?
No. It is easy to make when you just add the beard directly to the bottle, however, if you want to use the gnome as a cover multiple times, you want it to completely remove easily. In that case, I recommend gluing the beard to the inside of the hat so it dangles off the bottom and can slide over the top of a bottle still with ease.
