Simmer Liquid Fabric Softener
One great way to give your home a wonderfully clean smell is to add a capful of fabric softener to two capfuls of water and then allow it to simmer.
You can do this on the stove if you have an old pan that you want to dedicate to it or you can just add fabric softener mixed with water to any potpourri pot and allow it to simmer.
This is great for bathrooms and laundry rooms to cover up musty odors.
DIY Plug-In Refill
If you prefer to use plug-ins to keep your home smelling great, you can still save money by refilling those plug-ins yourself.
You just have to remove the wick, fill the container with your favorite essential oils and water and then replace the wick. This is a great way to save money and have a wonderful smelling home at the same time.

Simmering Room Freshener
Adding just a few sprigs of rosemary, a teaspoon of vanilla and a couple of lemon slices to a pot allows you to simmer a wonderfully smelling concoction that will have your entire home smelling great.
You can also do this in a potpourri pot if you prefer, just remember to check the pot to ensure that there is enough liquid to keep it from scorching.

Homemade Febreze Recipe
You can make your own homemade Febreze with just ⅛ cup of fabric softener, a couple of tablespoons of baking soda and some water. Just add the ingredients to a spray bottle and mix thoroughly.
Then, you just have to spray your furniture, curtains or any other fabric in the room and you get a fresh, clean scent without spending so much on regular Febreze.

Homemade Air Freshener Gel
Gel air fresheners last forever and they smell awesome but they can be just a little expensive. Instead of buying them, make them yourself.
Baby food jars work wonderfully for these DIY fresheners and the recipe is so easy to do that you may just want a different scent for every room.
You will need essential oils, water, unflavored gelatin and a little salt to create them and they will fill your home with wonderful scents for months.

DIY Reed Diffuser
Reed diffusers smell great and they look beautiful as well.
You can make these yourself and save a fortune with just a vase, baby oil, essential oils of your choosing, bamboo skewers and some ribbon for decoration.
The baby oil helps to hold in the scent of the essential oils and the skewers can be decorated any way you want, giving you not only a wonderfully smelling room but a beautiful decoration, too.

Calming Room Sprays
Essential oils and water can be combined to create wonderfully smelling sprays that you can use in any room. If you are looking for a calming scent, try combining chamomile with lavender and rosemary.
You just mix the appropriate amount of water and oils together in a small spray bottle and then shake before you spray.

Fragrance Bowls
To beat stale odors in any room, simply fill a bowl with clean sand and then top it off with peelings from various citrus fruits. You can also add cinnamon sticks, fresh herbs and spices or even aromatic flowers to the bowl. You will get a nice, clean and natural aroma and a beautiful decoration for the room.
Use Vinegar
Vinegar is a natural odor eater so if you have stale odors in your home, you can simply add a small bowl of vinegar to the room.
Just place the bowl anywhere in the room and in just a couple of hours, you will begin to notice a much cleaner and fresher smell. The vinegar will completely eliminate odors including those from pets and smokers.

Baking Soda for Carpets
Carpets can cause a room to smell stale, particularly if you have pets. Before you vacuum, simply sprinkle a bit of baking soda on your carpets and allow it to sit for about 15 minutes.
Then simply vacuum those stale odors away. Incidentally, baking soda is also great for litter boxes and trashcans to help eliminate odors.

Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is a natural deodorizer as well as an anti-bacterial agent that helps to eliminate bad odors and gives your home a wonderfully clean scent.
You can use essential oils or simply place a few eucalyptus branches in closets to help eliminate musty smells. Just check the branches and replace them every couple of weeks for the best results.
Homemade Potpourri
Bringing natural scents into your home is as simple as going outside and gathering a few items.
You can easily make your own wonderfully smelling potpourri with things that you find outside such as pinecones, acorns and even leaves. Then just add things like cinnamon or orange peelings that are dried out to give it a clean scent and put a little out in every room.

DIY Sachet
Cheesecloth, burlap or another fabric that breathes is perfect for making sachets that can help you to eliminate odors in dresser drawers, closets or entire rooms.
Just fill the cloth with fresh, whole spices, herbs or homemade potpourri and hang them wherever you need a little room freshening. These are great to hide under pillows to make bedrooms smell wonderful or you could use them in any room you want.

Keep Your Home Smelling Great with This DIY Febreze Recipe
Febreze is great for keeping your home smelling nice but it is certainly not cheap.
Aside from the cost, some air fresheners contain chemicals that you certainly do not want your family being around and certain brands can be harmful to pets.
This DIY Febreze is from Life. Family. Love and is a great (and cheaper) alternative to Febreze.
Plus, you can choose your scents so your home will smell exactly like you want. You just use things that you probably already have at home like liquid fabric softener and baking soda and put it all in a spray bottle.
The best part is it costs only 15 cents per bottle!

I like add in another idea for an air freshener - growing a herb such as holybasil or lavendar helps. These indoor plants actually offer benefits apart from just adding scent to air. Check out : http://www.hortusliving.com/best-air-freshener/

Where can you find the essential oils to use for these projects?????

I get them from Wal-Mart where the candles are.

I looked it up and found out you shouldn’t vacuum baking soda up. The particles get in the motor compartment and destroy the motor.
